TB-1

The TB-1 is based on the Tone Bender pedal, the classic high gain pedal from the 1960s.

This pedal is based on the MKII version, with a few added enhancements to bring the pedal up to todays standards. We have added a reverse voltage protection diode to the power input circuit, a thermal stability diode connected in the output section to allow the pedal to operate in high temperatures without dropping out or changing tone, input and output resistance to eliminate pops when using the footswitch (very high impedance to remove voltage build up without affecting the signal), and true bypass switching.

The TB -1 uses vintage, American made PNP Germanium transistors for the ultimate tone and texture that only vintage Germanium can provide.

The TB-1 has a switch for tailoring the gain/response of the pedal for the best possible match to your instrument.

  • In the “Off” position the circuit is the classic MKII circuit.
  • In the “1” position, the gain and top end is rolled off just a touch to tame the high end on bright guitars like a Tele.
  • In the “2” position, the gain and top end is rolled off a little more to go into the more warm and wooly areas the TB-1 can provide.

The overall texture of the TB-1 changes with the switch- be sure to take the time to explore the wide range of sounds available with this pedal, there are many different sounds in this pedal- the Attack knob and the switch work together in a pleasing, harmonious way- there are so many layers of fuzz and texture available with the TB-1, make sure to utilize your instruments volume and tone controls for the most versatility.

The TB-1 uses vintage PNP Germanium transistors and will run off a positive barrel power supply (standard these days) putting out 9-12VDC.   Internally, a charge pump is converting the negative ground voltage into a positive ground voltage so the TB-1 will live comfortably on a pedalboard using the same power as current negative ground supply pedals.
Never use more than 12VDC into the unit as it will render the charge pump inoperative, and you’ll need to have the pedal repaired.

The 2nd Wind series does not use internal batteries.

The signal path for this video is Squire tele>TB-1>1963 Blonde Fender Bassman into a 2/12 cab.
The signal is tapped with the UAD OX load and no effects were added. The amp is set to about 3.5 to keep it in the clean region.
